This project began as a kitchen renovation at the onset of the pandemic.

The clients were a young couple with one small child and another on the way. Their antique Portland home had only one tiny downstairs bathroom.

As the kitchen renovation took shape, they recognized an opportunity to improve the rest of the house as part of the project.

The new upstairs office nook — created during the kitchen remodel — left behind an underutilized closet. I converted that space into a full bath. And because the original bath was trying to do too much with too little space, I turned it into a powder room.

The clients valued thoughtful consumption, so we sourced a refinished, vintage vanity for the downstairs bath and a retiring showroom display vanity for the upstairs bath. Both choices felt perfectly at home in the project.

Projects like this are a reminder that the best renovations don't always happen one room at a time. Looking at the home as a whole often reveals opportunities that would otherwise be missed.
